Three of the East Coast’s Finest Set the Stage for the kickoff Turnpike Roses Tour
Knott, Cattaneo, and Rondeau sing through New England and the Mid-Atlantic in May 2020
The musician’s life is spent mostly on highways and byways, travelling many long miles for the chance to spend a few hours sharing their songs and stories. Sometimes along the way there are spots of beauty to behold…and the music found on those journeys is unforgettable.
Each Turnpike Roses Tour brings together three talented female Folk/Americana touring and recording artists. Singer-songwriters Lizanne Knott, Susan Cattaneo, and Katherine Rondeau will kick off the series, sharing their lush, soulful Americana sounds and stories of the road with music fans up and down the East Coast.
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike we plucked Lizanne Knott, a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter from Northwestern Pennsylvania. In 2018 Lizanne was nominated as a Reader’s Choice recipient by No Depression. A true world traveler, she has put her musical stamp not only in Philly, but in Nashville, TN and throughout the UK as well through her work on the Proper Music label. A voice as capable of beautiful clarity as it is of conveying whispering sensuality. Filling the grand old hall throughout, it raises hairs and spirits alike. (Belfast Telegraph, Queens Hall, IRL)
Our Northernmost rose, Susan Cattaneo, is one of Boston’s most respected singer-songwriters. Respectful of tradition, but not bound by it, Susan blends rock, folk and blues with a healthy dose of country. Call it New England Americana with a twang. In 2018, she was nominated for Best Americana Artist in the Boston Music Awards, and she performed and won the Connecticut Folk Festival. A 2018 and 2015 Kerrville New Folk Finalist, Susan “rocks with the best of them and also sings ballads so sweetly and lovingly that it can bring tears to the eyes of those listening.” (No Depression)
The final rose in the garden is New Jersey’s Katherine Rondeau. A full-throttle singer-songwriter who focuses her passion for classic folk music through a thoroughly modern lens, Katherine’s strong, soulful voice rings out like a bell on a clear summer’s night. Her music really shines on stage – her roots-inspired songs and engaging style have made her a festival favorite. Katherine will be the constant rose throughout the highways and byways the Turnpike Roses Tour travels. A 2018 Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist, Katherine's smooth, rich alto, and outstanding songwriting captivates the audience wherever she goes. (Wanda Fischer, WAMC-FM)
All three members of the inaugural Turnpike Roses Tour have also recently released acclaimed albums! Katherine’s 2019 album Unfortunate Point of View has had an extremely fortunate year, with six months on the Folk DJ charts, a #1 original song, and #4 album. Susan’s The Heart and the Hammer charted #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and yielded a #1 song and top 10 album on folk radio. Lizanne’s 2019 Anthology record released via Transoceanic Records, placed three singles on the Top 40 Roots Country/Americana charts.
The May 2020 Turnpike Roses Tour featuring Lizanne Knott, Susan Cattaneo, and Katherine Rondeau delivers an engaging in-the-round show full of torch, twang, and soulful folk music – pluck them for yourself!
