Three of the East Coast’s Finest Set the Stage for the kickoff Turnpike Roses Tour
Knott, Cattaneo, and Rondeau sing through New England and the Mid-Atlantic in May 2020
The musician’s life is spent mostly on highways and byways, travelling many long miles for the chance to spend a few hours sharing their songs and stories. Sometimes along the way there are spots of beauty to behold…and the music found on those journeys is unforgettable.
In May 2020 the Turnpike Roses Tour brings together three talented female Folk/Americana touring and recording artists. Singer-songwriters Lizanne Knott, Susan Cattaneo, and Katherine Rondeau will be sharing their lush, soulful Americana sounds and stories of the road with music fans up and down the East Coast. Featured dates are May 7 @ Luthier’s Co-op (Eastampton, MA); May 8 @ The Burren (Somerville, MA); May 15 @ Godfrey Daniels (Bethlehem, PA); May 16 @ Steel City Coffeehouse (Phoenixville, PA).
But what about these roses? What makes them so special?
From the Pennsylvania Turnpike we plucked Lizanne Knott, a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter from Northwestern Pennsylvania. In 2018 Lizanne was nominated as a Reader’s Choice recipient by No Depression. A true world traveler, she has put her musical stamp not only in Philly, but in Nashville, TN and throughout the UK as well through her work on the Proper Music label. A voice as capable of beautiful clarity as it is of conveying whispering sensuality. Filling the grand old hall throughout, it raises hairs and spirits alike. (Belfast Telegraph, Queens Hall, IRL)
Our Northernmost rose, Susan Cattaneo, is one of Boston’s most respected singer-songwriters. Respectful of tradition, but not bound by it, Susan blends rock, folk and blues with a healthy dose of country. Call it New England Americana with a twang. In 2018, she was nominated for Best Americana Artist in the Boston Music Awards, and she performed and won the Connecticut Folk Festival. A 2018 and 2015 Kerrville New Folk Finalist, Susan “rocks with the best of them and also sings ballads so sweetly and lovingly that it can bring tears to the eyes of those listening.” (No Depression)
The final rose in the garden is New Jersey’s Katherine Rondeau. Katherine’s soaring alto moves effortlessly through all facets of the folk genre – whether sharing a strong, haunting cry from an Appalachian-inspired murder ballad; leading a powerful, passionate call for social justice; or engaging her audiences to “join the choir” in a rousing singalong. Her 2019 album was a fan and critic favorite. Possessing one of the finest voices in folk music today, with Unfortunate Point of View Katherine has created her finest work to date. A top 10 favorite of 2019. (Ron Olesko, Folk Music Notebook)
All three members of the inaugural Turnpike Roses Tour have also recently released acclaimed albums! Katherine’s 2019 album Unfortunate Point of View had an extremely fortunate year as the #9 album of the year with a full YEAR months on the Folk DJ charts. Susan’s The Heart and the Hammer charted #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and yielded a #1 song and top 10 album on folk radio. Lizanne’s 2019 Anthology record released via Transoceanic Records, placed three singles on the Top 40 Roots Country/Americana charts.
The May 2020 Turnpike Roses Tour featuring Lizanne Knott, Susan Cattaneo, and Katherine Rondeau delivers an engaging in-the-round show full of torch, twang, and soulful folk music – pluck them for yourself!
